Novice Week 3 Wrap Up:

Three weeks down and three to go until our first novice race of fall season! Now that most of our rowers have the basics down, we have moved on to fine-tuning the stroke. Some of our boats have even taken strokes by all 8 rowers (which is harder than it looks!).

Coach Zach had a very clear goal for the boys: each rower needs to learn how to be their best version of an athlete. Every rower is different, but if they bring their max effort to the table, the team as a whole will benefit. They put this into practice by not wasting any strokes during practice and finding their rhythm. (They used the Macarena and the Electric Slide to help with rhythm on Thursday!).

The novice girls have been cruising around the lake taking as many strokes as possible. The basic movements need to be ingrained in their heads and bodies, that way we can build the skills needed to come down that race course as fast as we can! Please make sure to stretch every day and ice anything that may hurt!

*We want to remind everyone that the Absence Reporting sheet should be used 24 hours or more before an absence. If it’s less than 24 hours still fill it out but make sure to send an email or make a quick call to the coaches so we know whom to expect at practice. If we don’t hear about an absence and we put them in a boat, their boat will not be able to go out that day!*

GO MERCER!
